₦1.4 Billion for Cars in Kwara? When North and South Dey Bleed Without Security?
We woke up to shocking news that ₦1.4 billion has been budgeted by the Kwara State House of Representatives not for schools, not for hospitals, not even for security but for **cars**. Twenty-four lawmakers. Brand new cars. One point four billion naira. Just like that.
This is not just a waste of public funds, this is an insult to the common Nigerian, especially when both the North and South are suffering from insecurity every day. From banditry in the North to kidnappings in the South, from burnt villages to broken homes. (security is bleeding), but our leaders are riding.
When leaders start enjoying luxury in the middle of chaos, it's not governance, it's wickedness.

Let’s Be Honest, What Can ₦1.4 Billion Do Instead?
- Equip local vigilante groups and community police with better tools and logistics.
- Support displaced families in troubled regions with food, shelter, and rehabilitation.
- Set up neighborhood surveillance technology and quick-response systems.
- Train and deploy more security personnel, especially in high-risk areas.
- Invest in youth development programs to reduce crime and radicalization.
But no, what did they do? They chose to drive. And while they cruise in their air-conditioned SUVs, the ordinary Nigerian walks in fear on the road. Children can't sleep peacefully. Farmers can't go to their farms. Traders can’t move goods across states. But our leaders are smiling in convoys.
This is Why We Speak as Concerned Youthful Citizens of Nigeria (CYCN)
We are tired. Tired of recycled oppression in fine suits. Tired of headlines that mock our suffering. Tired of being told there's no money, except when it's time to fund luxury.
Imagine what this country would look like if our leaders felt our pain. Imagine if they walked our streets, sat in our classrooms, visited our clinics, or spent one night in our villages. Maybe then, they would understand that cars are not the solution but security is.
To Our Leaders, We Say This:
If you can spend ₦1.4 billion on cars, you can spend ₦1.4 billion on safety. If you can approve that kind of budget in seconds, then you can approve life-saving reforms even faster. Let your priorities reflect our realities. We are not blind. And we will not be silent.
This is a call to conscience. A call to action. A call to put Nigeria first, not your comfort. Until then, we, the CYCN, will keep raising our voices loud and clear. Na we dey suffer, so na we go talk!
